José A. Calves is the Corporate Counsel for Employment at The Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack LLC, a nationwide aftermarket automotive services company. In that role, he manages the employment litigation docket for the Company’s approximately 900 stores and provides day- to-day legal counsel and support to internal departmental clients and the senior leadership team.

Prior to joining Pep Boys, José worked for several prominent regional law firms in southern New Jersey where he focused his practice on employment law and the representation of public entities. He also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Marie E. Lihotz, (Retired) Presiding Judge in the New Jersey Appellate Division. José was admitted to the bar in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in 2016 after graduating from The George Washington University Law School.

In the community, José is the Vice President for Southern New Jersey for the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, a member of the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Camden County Bar Association and was appointed to serve on the District IV Professional Ethics Committee within the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics. Active politically, José is a member of the Camden County Democratic Committee, his local joint planning board, and the board of directors of the Rowan University Alumni Association.
